Joe's Pub, Junos + Jazz Camp!
Hey Everybody!
I'm writing from Bern, the lovely capital of Switzerland where I've been enjoying playing at Marianns Jazz room. It's really awesome to spend a week in the same place. I even did laundry! :)
I received the incredible news this week that my album "With A Twist" has been nominated for a Juno award (Canada's version of the Grammys) in the vocal jazz category. What an honour! Biggest thanks go to the 15+ musicians, producer Matt Pierson and arranger Gil Goldstein for giving their many talents and Sony Masterworks for funding this ambitious large ensemble. It was a joy working with them and I'm sure it came through. The jazz awards take place March 24th in Vancouver. I wish I could say I'm coming home but I'm booked that night on a double bill with awesome saxophonist Mindi Abair and don't think it's right to bail on my band or the commitment. hmmm!
I'm most excited to announce my next wave of inspiration in a series at Joe's Pub in New York City starting on Wednesday February 28th. I have a bunch of new tunes that are bluesy, salty, a little funky and rockish. Nothing fluffy about it, the first night is called Part I: GRIT and will feature a badass band:
Mathis Picard- Keys/Vocals
Lily Maase - Guitar
Evan Arntzen - Reeds/Percussion/Vocals
Darrian Douglas - Drums/Percussion
Devin Starks - Bass
Finally, the New York Hot Jazz Camp is well underway in planning and we're almost at capacity! We could use a couple of bassists and drummers especially so if you're on the fence, get off eh? :) We've also partnered with Prohibition Productions to produce the GOTHAM JAZZ FESTIVAL, a multiband extravaganza which will include our final concerts of student and faculty SUNDAY APRIL 8TH (save the date! )
Thanks always and hope to see you soon :)
